Michael Sandel

A person on public administration field that I admire is Michael J. Sandel. He was born in Minneapolis, in 1953. Today, he is 66 years old. He is an american political philosopher.

Sandel served on the George W. Bush administration's President's Council on Bioethics.

He is the author of several publications. His first book is Liberalism and the Limits of Justice (1982).
Other book that I know is Justice: What's the Right Thing to Do? (2009)
The last year, in the compulsory subject named “Ideas y debates políticos contemporáneos”, I have to read the sixth chapter of the abovementioned book. This chapter revolve around John Rawls theory of justice. Since then, it interested me.

He is also the author of the book What Money Can't Buy: The Moral Limits of Markets(2012). I am reading this book on the recommendation of a teacher. I like that Sandel raise the discussion about ethical questions of our time such as:

  • “Isn't there something wrong with a world in which everything is for sale?”,
  • “Should we pay children to read books or to get good grades?”,
  • “Should we put a price on human life to decide how much pollution to allow?”, and
  • “Is it ethical to pay people to test risky new drugs or to donate their organs?”, among other things.
